My Covid Journey
I thought myself to be a healthy and fit guy who used to do walk, run and jog for around one hour daily but this Corona Virus hit me hard. The post is not for sympathy. It’s just to make you aware about this virus and its repercussion on me and my body. So don’t generalize. Different persons might have experienced different things. I would like to share my journey with all of you. I request to leave reading at point if you feel the post to be not worthy or find it to be uncomfortable.
So let’s start from beginning. I along with family was in Mirzapur(UP)(same city as in Amazon Prime web series 😉). My father went for his business trip to Surat and Delhi and somewhere in between he contacted Corona and started feeling uncomfortable but somehow completed his trip. Somehow he came back to the city but his health started taking a toll, deteriorating day by day. We consulted a doctor in Mirzapur thrice but each time he said it will be fine, nothing to worry. We did RT-PCR Test, but it came out to be negative. One of my cousin asked me to get his CT Scan and X-Ray done. The same doctor after seeing the reports confirmed my father to be covid positive. We came to Gurgaon to my brother’s place and on the same day of arrival took my father to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. He got a bed and his treatment started under the supervision of one of the best doctor for covid Dr. Manish Malik . Now during this entire scenario I was having continuous fever but kept on taking paracetamol as I thought it to be normal thing and my father’s health was top most priority. I went to Dr X in Gurgaon, he asked me the same thing, CT Scan and RTPCR. RTPCR was negative but CT scan displayed patches. Even the diagnostic centre guy asked me to go outside building. For me virus came and went. I was home quarantined and still had fever. Now the doctor started my post covid treatment through virtual OPD. He said because of not receiving treatment you might have side effect and suggested IL6 and D Dimer test for antibody count. Reports showed antibody count to be 6 times the normal one. Medication which included steroids, blood thinners…... Steroid came with its own side effects, extreme weakness(became difficult even to climb one floor), fatigue, sleeplessness — once didn’t slept for 4 continuous days, other days had a sleep for max 2–3 hours and still facing this sleep issue but it has become a part of my life and currently enjoying it (Even doctor asked to read or watch movies as the side effect was because of medication and will take some time). I used to be hungry entire day even after eating a ton(gained weight 😢). To a great limit your motor skills are also affected. To clarify, for me steroids were given to weaken the immune system so that the antibody count can reduce and also to recover the patchy part of the lungs otherwise the portion with patches would shrink, reducing the lung capacity for lifetime. To add to the list, latest side effect are poxes on body(Treatment started with skin specialist). Although IL6 and D Dimer count is under control, steroids dosage is being reduced gradually. Might stop next week. The dosage were in following proportion 8mg, 4mg, 2mg, 1mg with last one being of 0.5mg. Life is getting back on track and hope soon I will recover completely. Can’t resume physical activity like I used to have earlier but will be back soon.
My father has a entirely different story and it was quite painful.
My father was treated was well in Sir Ganga Ram, recovered and came back home. Everything was getting back to normal but after few days my father started experiencing stomach pain. We thought it to be side effect of too much medication. Dr Manish Malik asked my brother to get him to hospital. Ulcer was detected with stomach infection. Because of the virus, blood thickened and intestine got blood coagulation. My father was readmitted and next one week was really tough for him. My brother was with my father as an attendant while me, mother and sister in law were at home. My brother and father didn’t told anything at home and kept experiencing all the pain alone. That week was very difficult for my father both physically and emotionally as he had to suffer a lot. Blood thinners were started. With blood thinners came different set of problems. Because of ulcer and blood thinners his stool started having blood thus reducing hemoglobin count. It was really challenging for Doctors to find the balance point and Doctor himself said he learned a new thing, how to dilute blood and maintain hemoglobin count at the same point . During the 15 days rehospitalization, my brother didn’t came home for 12 days. On last two days I went to hospital so that my brother can get some rest. Now he back home and fine. We are taking care of him and will be fine.
During this entire journey the one who was left is my mother. She didn't said anything but suffered a lot too without showing any emotions.
Again, please don’t find it for sympathy. Just to make you guys aware that this virus is not simple and even doctors don’t know what side effects this virus will have on anyone. And Don’t relate it to anyone’s immunity.
If you have not experienced it, please don’t comment on it.
